Vipassana Meditation is the way to Enlightenment (Nibbana). In Myanmar (Burma) the Teachings of the late Mogok Sayadawgyi is followed by the majority of population in Myanmar. The emphasis is the understanding of Doctrine of Paticcassamuppada before the Yogis start Meditation Practice. The late Mogok Sayadawgyi had taught the essentials of Vipassana Meditation, preaching and giving public talks almost on a daily basis before he passed away in 1962 (17th October). Most followers believed he had attained Nibbana or Enlightenment.
Nowadays in Myanmar, the Mogok Way is propagated by (1) more than 400 Mogok Meditation Centres all over the country under the supervision of the Mogok Vipassana Dhamma Yeiktha, Nat Mauk Road, Yangon - known as the main Yangon Organization (Aphwet Chote), and (2) other Monasteries and Meditation Centres independent of the main Yangon Organization, especially in upper Myanmar. Due to practical problems associated with active dissemination to Foreign Citizens, the Mogok Way remains unheard of in many other countries in the world.
The Buddhist Aid Trust (http://www.buddhistaid.co.uk), a Charity-Commission-registered Trust in London, has been actively inviting senior Mogok Kammatthana Cariya Sayadaws to the temporary Mogok Vipassana Centre(http://www.mogok.org) , located in East London since August 2004. Locally resident Myanmar families, State Scholar Doctors and young Myanmar doctors look after the essential needs of the visiting monks and regular talks and Meditation Sessions are being organized successfully, to the satisfaction of many Mogok yogis especially in Greater London, Portsmouth, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, South Wales, Essex, etc. We are looking for a property in East London and surrounding areas with donation from those already in the UK and abroad and also from donors in Myanmar. Our main objective is to make available the Mogok's Way of Meditation to whoever willing to follow it where ever they live, especially outside Myanmar. We need a good-sized property with ample parking space. We feel that a purpose-built centre with adequate facilities to be located somewhere in East London is urgently required to accelerate the momentum we have achieved and maintained.
On the last day of June 2005, a Committee to raise funds has been formed in Yangon after consultation with senior Mogok Sayadaws. The Committee in Myanmar has opened its office at Shwe Theingi Dhammar Yon, No 98, Lower Shwe Bon Thar Street, Pabedan Township, Yangon, to accept donations from Mogok Yogis and all other donors in Myanmar. The Donors' List (http://www.mogok.co.uk/viharado.htm) can be viewed with regular updates.
Those, resident outside Myanmar, can donate towards this fund by contacting the Buddhist Aid Trust (http://www.buddhistaid.co.uk) or the Trustees directly. It is the great opportunity to donate towards establishing a permanent Vihara or Centre where visiting Senior Mogok Sayadaws from Myanmar will offer Vipassana Teachings in theory and practice to the wider public, and conduct religious activities strictly adhering to practices as in Myanmar. If you wish to make a donation, please contact Buddhist Aid Trust. We are not just setting up another Vihara abroad. Our flagships Nibbana.com (http://www.nibbana.com), NibbanaDhamma and Mogok(http://www.mogok.org) websites have already been disseminating Theravada Dhamma to people worldwide via Internet. Therefore please do not miss this great opportunity to promote and propagate Theravada Buddhism for all citizens of the world in accordance with the Teachings of the late Venerable Mogok Sayadawgyi of Myanmar (Burma), from a purpose-built centre with Senior Mogok Sayadaws. Persuasion and high pressure techniques will not be used to seek donors. Those who live in the UK, especially in and around East London are also welcome to become Buddhist Aid Trustees, subject to usual guidelines by the Charity Commission UK.
